Yoga Therapy Across the Cancer Care Continuum with Anne Pitman, Interviewer: Shawnee Thornton Hardy

Yoga Therapy Across the Cancer Care Continuum

Publisher: Singing Dragon
Authors: Anne Pitman and Leigh Leibel, interviewed by Shawnee Thornton Hardy

Cancer is common. But it can also be lonely. Receiving a cancer diagnosis is a shock that stirs up fear and anxiety and begins a flurry of appointments and difficult decision making. Yoga therapy helps cancer patients slow down and offers them compassion, connection and a multitude of evidence-informed practices. Watch the FIRST EVER Women Writer’s Book Club Interview as yoga therapist (and two-time author!) Shawnee Thornton Hardy discusses the powerful book Yoga Therapy Across the Cancer Care Continuum (Singing Dragon, 2022) with authors Leigh Leibel and Anne Pitman.

In their conversation, Leibel and Pitman share how yoga therapy meets people throughout the cancer continuum and supports them from a bio-psycho-social-spiritual (kosha) model, helping them to engage in their recovery and their lives. Their book features unique stories from 40 yoga therapists around the world, working in hospitals (bedside, infusion centers and outpatient services), integrative clinics, and in homes. The book balances theory and practice, while beautifully honoring the roots of yoga. Their goal was to create a resource for yoga professionals, health care professionals and anyone supporting those going through cancer treatment. In fact, an oncologist recently told Leibel that they’re using the book to create their own yoga therapy program, in hospital!

Make a cup of tea, watch the interview and be prepared to be inspired by the incredible resource Leibel and Pitman have created.
